Adra Tunnel restoration project update

INFORMATION RELEASE

The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS) is continuing to work with the Woodwackers 2.0 community group, Recreation Sites and Trails BC, and several local contractors to restore Adra Tunnel. The Adra Tunnel restoration project has made significant progress and is seeking approval from the province for its final phase of work to be completed. Please note Adra Tunnel remains closed to the public until further notice.

Project progress

  • Rock stabilization is complete
  • Resurfacing of the tunnel floor with drainage ditches is complete
  • LED lighting has been installed

Woodwackers 2.0 would like to thank all the generous donors, volunteers, and local businesses who have contributed to making this project a success, including George and Sylvia Melville who donated $100,000. Their invaluable support will help cover additional costs required to complete the project.

Woodwackers 2.0 has applied to the B.C. Tourism Growth Program to provide funding to support the completion of the project.

Project final phase

  • Construction of a structurally supported concrete arch (design submitted for approval)
  • Installation of tunnel entrance gates and signage
  • Development of the timber design

The Adra Tunnel restoration project has received notable support from local businesses to complete the final phase, including Kieson Fabrication & Machine Ltd., Greyback Construction, Princeton Wood Preservers, Fine Point Carpentry, and Elemental Structural Engineers Ltd.

Project background
The Adra Tunnel project was initiated by a community group known as Woodwackers 2.0. The group is a diverse community network spanning generations and industries. The vision for the project is to restore the Adra Tunnel to preserve its historical significance and transform it into a celebrated landmark.
