Pioneer Park pathways and accessibility project
News ArticleINFORMATION RELEASE
The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS) is continuing work on Pioneer Park enhancements and upgrades. The project is located at 201 Ponderosa Avenue, Kaleden in Electoral Area “I”.
The replacement of the failing septic system (servicing the park washroom) was completed earlier this year. Work to construct a new pathway system to improve accessibility is set to begin Tuesday, October 24, 2023. Paving work is scheduled to be complete before the end of November 2023. Irrigation and landscape work will continue into spring 2024.
Park users can expect disruptions and certain areas of the park will be inaccessible during construction. The majority of the work will take place between the playground and tennis courts and the boat launch (located in the southern portion of the park.) The washroom facility will be inaccessible for periods of time while preparation and paving work is conducted.
Please use caution and avoid the construction areas. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
Project Background
Pioneer Park, established at the site of an old packing plant, is a popular lakefront amenity in Kaleden. The park offers many year-round facilities and activities from beach access, boat launch and tennis courts in the summer to a temporary ice rink in the winter (weather dependent) and picnic areas with tables during all seasons.
Grant funding was secured to improve park accessibility. Subrina Monteith, Electoral Area “I” Director, with assistance from the Kaleden Parks and Recreation Commission and RDOS staff, developed plans to upgrade and improve additional park features and amenities.
