Vandals cause extensive damage at parks in Naramata

News Article

INFORMATION RELEASE

Vandalism at two Naramata parks during the weekend of July 18, 2025, caused significant damage, including flooding of a public pit toilet at Wharf Park. The incident forced the temporary closure of the toilet and required intensive cleanup by RDOS staff and contracted services to mitigate potential environmental and public health risks. Provincial environmental and health authorities have been notified and are involved in the response.

Manitou Park was also hit by vandals during the same weekend.

  • Several solar bollards were forcibly removed and thrown into Okanagan Lake.
The bollards will need to be repaired or replaced.
  • The park’s irrigation system was damaged and required repairs.
  • Several toilets were intentionally blocked and required a plumbing contractor to conduct repairs.
Two of the six washroom stalls at Manitou Park were closed for three days due to the damage.

“These acts of vandalism are estimated to cost Naramata residents close to $10,000,” said Adrienne Fedrigo, Electoral Area “E” director. “This intentional damage impacts public amenities and diverts resources away from community improvements.”

The RDOS is working with local authorities to investigate the incidents and encourages anyone with information to come forward.
