The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS) congratulates the Penticton Amateur Radio Club (PARC) on another successful Field Day 2026. The annual event brings together amateur radio operators to practice emergency communications, test equipment in field conditions, and demonstrate their ability to communicate when traditional systems are unavailable.

RDOS Emergency Services was pleased to participate in this year’s event and see the dedication, professionalism, and technical expertise of local amateur radio volunteers. “Exercises such as Field Day help ensure amateur radio operators remain prepared to support communities during emergencies and disasters,” said RDOS Chair Mark Pendergraft.

Amateur radio plays an important role in emergency preparedness. When cellular, internet, or other communication systems are disrupted, amateur radio operators can establish reliable communication links, relay critical information, and support communication between affected communities, emergency responders, and Emergency Operations Centres (EOCs).

The RDOS values its ongoing partnership with PARC and the broader amateur radio community. Their continued commitment to amateur radio and emergency communications provides an important layer of resilience, helping ensure critical information can continue to flow when conventional communication systems are disrupted.
