RDOS continues to monitor water levels in Tulameen area

News Article

The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen Emergency Operations Centre (RDOS EOC) is monitoring run off in the Electoral Area H communities of Tulameen and Coalmont. Residents are encouraged to be prepared for high water and take necessary steps to protect their homes and property.

Use caution around streams, lakes and rivers where water levels may be rising or fast moving. Keep clear of eroded banks. Emergency preparedness also includes having a plan to ensure your family and pet’s needs are considered before an unexpected event occurs. Pre-planning, including having emergency kits with enough supplies for 72 hours and having fuel in generators, can help your family cope should conditions change suddenly. With current weather and upcoming Freshet, the RDOS EOC encourages all property owners to actively watch river flows, and develop your 72 hour kit in preparation for potential Evacuation Alerts or Orders.

Property owners in low-lying areas may want to consider sandbagging their property. Sand and sandbags are available at the Tulameen Fire Hall and Coalmont Satellite Fire Hall. An instructional video of how-to sandbag is available. Sandbag locations are also listed on the interactive sandbag map.
