EOC Update: Thomas Creek wildfire in Electoral Area D

News Article

The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen Emergency Operations Centre (RDOS EOC) continues to monitor the Thomas Creek wildfire in Electoral Area D, and the potential threat to life and property.

Currently, the Thomas Creek wildfire is considered out of control, and estimated at 5,000 hectares. The wildfire does not currently pose an imminent risk to structures. Contact the RDOS EOC at 250-490-4225 for more information.

BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) crews continue to work in the vicinity. Please avoid the area from Heritage Hills to Skaha Estates, including Eastside Road, McLean Creek Road, Ponderosa Point and Skaha Lake, due to ongoing fire operations. This includes all hiking trails and travelling traffic. An Area Restriction Notice issued by BCWS remains in effect until further notice.

Boaters and pleasure craft operators are reminded to avoid Skaha Lake to allow air crews to conduct operations involving water tenders safely. The Okanagan Falls boat launch is closed until further notice in order to support BCWS fire suppression efforts.
